YouTube. YouTube is a place full of creativity, but also a place of lots of controversial topics. So it’s not surprising that the trending page of YouTube is often full of drama or trivial videos but you also occasionally might find a new and outstanding video idea. Sure, the latter is rarely in the trending section, so it was a nice surprise to see the title “Planting 20,000,000 Trees, My Biggest Project Ever!” on top of the list. Now, looking at that title and being aware of the commonly used clickbait, you can look at it skeptically, but in the wholesome video of YouTuber MrBeast planting 1,700 trees by hand supported by his community and friends he actually explains the idea behind his latest and biggest project. Exactly as his title says, he is planning to plant 20 million trees with his partner and former NASA engineer Mark Rober until January 1, 2020, not by hand, but with the help of the non-profit organization Arbor Day Foundation.
The Arbour Day Foundation has already planted about 350 million trees since its foundation by John Rosenow in 1972. You can order trees on their homepage and plant them yourself combined with a course on how to plant and treat them. They also have many programs like “Rain Forest Rescue”, “Energy-Saving Trees”, and many more. The latest project being #TeamTrees.

Daher ist es nicht überraschend, dass die Trending-Seite von Youtube gerne voll ist mit belanglosen Trivia, Drama, aber auch dem ein oder anderen relevanten Video. Natürlich ist Letzteres eher selten, daher war es eine nette Überraschung den Titel “Planting 20,000,000 Trees, My Biggest Project Ever!”, zu Deutsch “Wir pflanzen 20,000,000 Bäume, mein größtes Projekt”, auf Platz 1 der Trending-Seite zu sehen. Da kann es der erste Gedanke sein, dass es sich hier lediglich um Clickbaiting handelt, aber wenn man sich das Video ansieht, in dem der You-Tuber MrBeast selbst 1700 Bäume pflanzt, unterstützt von seiner Community und Freunden, wird man definitiv eines Besseren belehrt. Er erklärt sein neuestes und größtes Projekt. Genau wie es im Titel steht, will er mit seinem Partner Mark Rober (ehemaliger Nasa-Ingenieur) 20 Millionen Bäume pflanzen, bis zum 01.01.2020, mithilfe der Non-Profit Organisation „Arbour Day Foundation”.
Die „Arbour Day Foundation” hat bisher schon 350 Millionen Bäume gepflanzt, seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 1972 von John Rosenow. Auf der Webseite kann man selbst Bäume bestellen, mit einem kurzen Guide wie man sie pflanzt und wie man sich um sie kümmert.
